Recommendations and Requirements for Using the format Command
You must assume the root role or become an administrator to use the format command. See Using Your Assigned Administrative Rights in Securing Users and Processes in Oracle Solaris 11.4. Otherwise, the following error message is displayed when you try to use the format command.
$ format Searching for disks...done No permission (or no disks found)!
