Maintaining Disks

Perform regular disk maintenance to ensure that efficient use of disk space. To create additional disk space, delete files and directories that you no longer need. This section discusses some disk maintenance tasks.

Caution  -  Deleting files and directories from the system has permanent results. Unless you have an archive system that backs up your system, deleted files cannot be recovered. Make sure that you remove the correct files and directories. Removing files from ZFS file system does not free space if they are still referenced in a previous snapshot. Because file deletion is a critical operation, you must have the appropriate rights to be able to perform system-wide deletions. For more information, see Using Your Assigned Administrative Rights in Securing Users and Processes in Oracle Solaris 11.4.
