Oracle VM OS Installation Tasks

The following table describes the high-level steps for installing Oracle VM Server software.

Review the server Product Notes for information updates.

Install server hardware and connect to the Oracle ILOM service processor.

Confirm the Oracle VM Server release that you want to install.
Supported Oracle VM Server Operating Systems

Choose an Oracle VM Server installation method. You can perform a Manual Installation or an Automated Installation using Kickstart.

Note -  Manual Installation is used in this example.

Verify that your system meets the requirements for Oracle VM Server installation:

  • Minimum memory, disk space, and other system requirements.

  • Firmware is updated to the latest version.

Prepare to install the Oracle VM Server software:

Set up a second system with a static IP address on which you can install the Oracle VM Manager. This system must have one of the following operating systems installed:

  • Oracle Linux 7, 64-bit or later

Note -  The Oracle VM Server installation requires two passwords: one for the root Oracle VM Server account and one for the Oracle VM Agent.

Install Oracle VM Manager.

Download the Oracle VM Server installation distribution files.
You can obtain operating system and application software from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.

Install Oracle VM Server either manually or using the automated KickStart utility.

Reboot the server before using Oracle VM Server.
Resetting or Powering the Server Off and On

Perform post-installation tasks.

  • Refer to the server Product Notes to review any issues or operating notes,

  • Register Oracle VM Server and activate Automatic Updates.

  • Obtain errata information and updates.

  • Update all install packages.
