You have the option of creating and managing the attributes in your data model according to your organization's needs.

Important: System attributes that come pre-configured with your data model cannot be edited and are identified with a Lock icon An image of the lock icon. This icon identifies attributes that cannot be edited..

To manage attributes:

  1. Click the Oracle icon Image of the application navigation button. Use it to access the different parts of Oracle Unity. in the bottom-right corner to open the navigation menu.
  2. Slect Data model.
  3. Find the data object that has the attribute you want to manage in the list of Data objects.

  5. Click the Attributes tab.

  7. Move your mouse cursor over the attribute and click the Action menu (An image of the action menu button. Use it to edit custom data objects.).

  9. Select a customization option.
    • Edit:You can update the Name, Description, or Attribute group at any time. You cannot change the ID .
    • Updating the data type

If you're editing an attribute with the current data type of string (500-character limit), you have the option of updating the data type from string to text (8,000-character limit). You can't make any other data type changes for attributes. Learn more about Data types.

      • The attribute must be a non-system attribute that can store ingested data.

      • If you're updating the data type of an attribute, ensure that similar attributes in other data objects are updated as well. For example, a similar attribute may also be present in a master entity, such as MasterCustomer or MasterAccount.

    • Enable Lookup: For non-system attributes with the string or text data type, you can configure lookup values for the attribute so that you can select values from a list instead of entering them manually. You can use lookup lists when Creating segments and when using the Data viewer to Viewing data object records. This is recommended only for attributes with a limited number of unique values, such as Country or State. As well, the Data density of the attribute must be over 0%. This is not recommended for attributes with a high number of unique values, such as First name. Enabling lookup for attributes with a high number of unique values can negatively affect the performance of system jobs (data warehouse and identity resolution) and the time needed for them to run and complete. Learn more about Attribute lookups. If you are enabling lookup for a master entity, please see Enabling lookup for master entity attributes.
    • After enabling lookup, you will need to do the following to view the change:

      1. Publish changes.

      2. When the publish job successfully completes, run the Data warehouse job from the Data feeds page.

      3. If you enabling lookup for an attribute from a Master entity, you will also need to run the Identity resolution job from the Data feeds page after the Data warehouse job successfully completes. You may also need to complete additional tasks depending on the attribute you are enabling lookup for. Please see Enabling lookup for master entity attributes.

    • Disable Lookup: Remove lookup values for the attribute. You won't be able to select the values from a list and will need to enter them manually.
    • After disabling lookup, you will need to do the following to view the change:

      1. Publish changes.

      2. When the publish job successfully completes, run the Data warehouse job from the Data feeds page.

      3. If you disabling lookup for an attribute from a Master entity, you will also need to run the Identity resolution job from the Data feeds page after the Data warehouse job successfully completes.

    • Delete: Remove the attribute from the data model. This action is not reversible and deleted attributes cannot be recovered. You can only delete attributes that have not been published and are not pre-configured system attributes. After attributes are published, they cannot be deleted but they can be hidden. Learn more about Managing the visibility of data.
    • Hide: When you hide an attribute, it is no longer visible or accessible in the data model. Learn more about Managing the visibility of data. If you need to view which attributes have been tagged as hidden, follow the steps for Viewing hidden items.
    • The following attributes cannot be hidden:

      • Newly created attributes that haven't been published to the data model. You can delete unpublished attributes.
      • Pre-configured system attributes.
      • Attributes used in a relationship. Learn more about Relationships.
    • Show: Make a hidden attribute visible again. To view this option, follow the steps for Viewing hidden items.
    • Mask: When you mask an attribute, unauthorized users will not be able to see the attribute's values in the following areas of the platform: Data viewer, Profile explorer, Segment sample viewer. The Mask/Unmask options are available only for the Data master and Instance admin user roles. After masking an attribute, the Instance admin role will still view the attribute's real value. Learn more about Masking attribute data.
    • The following attributes cannot be masked:

      • Pre-configured system attributes.
      • Attributes that are hidden.
    • Unmask: Makes the attribute's real value visible to all users.
