Viewing Net New Trend

The Net New Trend portlet lets you track changes in recurring revenue over time. It shows how new sales, upsells, downsells, and churn impact revenue. You can view these changes by month, quarter, or year.

The bar chart displays each revenue category over time. This helps you see which factors drive growth or signal concern. With this information, you can make better decisions and spot opportunities to improve revenue.

Net New Trend Key Components

  • Data sources - Recurring revenue data from NetSuite.

  • Impact categories - New sales, upsells, downsells, and churn, each represented as a separate category to highlight growth drivers and losses.

  • Calculations -

    • For monthly periods, the portlet totals new, upsell, downsell, and churn for the month.

    • For quarterly periods, it sums these categories across all months in the quarter.

    • For yearly periods, it sums these categories across all months in the year.

    • Net New is calculated as ending recurring revenue minus beginning recurring revenue for the selected period.

      • For monthly, it's the ending balance minus the beginning balance for the month.

      • For quarterly, it's the ending balance of the last month minus the beginning balance of the first month in the quarter.

      • For yearly, it's the ending balance of the last month minus the beginning balance of the first month in the year.

  • Visualization - Trend bar chart using distinct colors for each impact category.

    Y-axis displays revenue amounts. X-axis shows the selected time periods (months, quarters, or years), providing a clear view of performance over time.

  • Filters - Metric (ARR or MRR), subsidiary, customer, item, department, class, and location.

  • Reporting periods - Monthly (1-12 months), quarterly (1-12 quarters), or yearly (1-3 years) duration available to select for analysis.

Total new recurring revenue added in the period.

Upsell

Total increase in recurring revenue from existing customers in the period.

Downsell

Total decrease in recurring revenue from existing customers in the period.

Churn

Total recurring revenue lost due to customer cancellations in the period.

Net New

Ending recurring revenue minus beginning recurring revenue for the period.

To view the net new trend graph:

  1. Go to Subscription Metrics > Revenue Metrics > View.

  2. From the Metric filter, select ARR or MRR.

  3. (Optional) Apply the applicable filters.

  4. Select the duration, start period and end period you want to review.

  5. Review the chart to see revenue changes by impact category.
