The Preview feature is especially useful for viewing images and other media items managed by applications such as ATG Merchandising. However, it may also be useful for content targeter assets in ATG Personalization. For example, your site’s Home page could include a targeter that changes the page’s images. You could use the Preview feature to determine how the Home page would appear if you changed the same targeter so that it displayed a new set of images.
Targeters are usually designed to work for a specific set of user profiles. For example, a targeter could display content about golf vacations to anyone who belonged to a user segment called “Golfers.” When you use the Preview feature, you can select the profile you want to use. The content appears as it would appear to that user.
To select a preview profile:
Click the Preview button.
In the Select a User for Preview dialog box, choose a profile that is appropriate for the preview you are performing. For example, to preview the effects of a targeter that displays content to people in a “Golfers” segment, select a profile that belongs to that segment.
The profiles you can select are stored in a preview profile repository that can be populated in several ways. If no profiles appear in the selection dialog, preview profiles may not have been added to the repository yet. To verify this is the case, display the BCC Home page and select Personalization > Preview Users. If necessary, you can add a profile. If the Preview Users option does not appear in the BCC Home page, make sure the ATG application has been started with the –layer Preview switch. See the ATG Business Control Center Administration and Development Guide.
Note: Some content targeters include dates that specify when the targeters take effect. For the purposes of preview, any such dates are ignored.
