Graceful Server Power Down

Performing a graceful shutdown ensures that data is saved and not corrupted, and that resources are assigned to the other server. This is the preferred method for powering down a server for component replacement.

  1. Ensure that Ethernet cables are connected from your network to the NET0 port on the back of each server.
  2. Direct your web browser to the server to be serviced by using either the IP address or host name assigned to the NET0 port as follows: https://ipaddress:215

    or

    https://hostname:215

  3. Log in with the Administrator account.

The username and password defaults are root and changeme.

  4. Depending on the nature of the problem, you might want to view system status (Maintenance > System and Maintenance > Problems) or log files (Maintenance > Logs), or run diagnostics or view analytics before you shut down the server.
  5. Go to Maintenance > Hardware.
  6. Click the Show Details link for the server.

Before proceeding, you can view the status of server components by clicking the appropriate submenu, such as DIMM.

  7. Click the power icon for the server and select Power off from the pull-down list.

Wait for the server to power down.

  8. Disconnect the power cords from the server.

    Caution

Caution - To completely power off the server, you must disconnect the power cords from the back panel of the server.
