Remove the Drive Backplane
A drive backplane is a cold-service component that can be replaced only by
authorized service personnel.
| Caution -
This procedure requires that you handle components that are sensitive to
electrostatic discharge. This discharge can cause failure of server components.

Power off the server.
See Removing Power From the Server.

Remove all the hard drives from the front of the server.
Note the locations of the hard drives before removing them so that you can
install them later in their original slots. See Remove a Hard Drive.

Remove the main module from the server.
See Remove the Main Module.

Take the necessary ESD precautions.
See Prevent ESD Damage.

Disconnect the four drive backplane cables from the drive backplane.

Unplug the data cables from the drive backplane.

Unplug the power cables from the drive backplane.

Lift up on the plastic retaining clips to disengage them from the top of the
hard drive assembly.

Push the plastic panel toward the rear of the main module, and remove the
plastic panel from the main module.

Push the top edge of the drive backplane slightly toward the rear of the
main module, then lift the drive backplane up and remove it from the main
module.
