Preparing Fusion EPM for Cost Advisor for AI

Prepare Fusion EPM to receive Cost Advisor data and insights before entering the destination connection details in the OCI Console.

Important

Note

You must have a Fusion EPM instance and an EPM Enterprise license to connect Cost Advisor for AI to the Fusion EPM environment.

Complete Fusion EPM preparation before entering the destination connection details in the OCI Console. We recommend completing this preparation before adding AI providers.

Create a Cost Advisor workspace to download the setup package through Destination, Add destination, and Prepare Fusion EPM. Identify the target Fusion EPM instance. Coordinate with your EPM Service Administrator and identity domain administrator to set up access and the application. Work with your finance team to review the organizational and financial data to load into EPM.

Have your EPM Service Administrator complete these steps on a customer-managed Windows computer or server: install EPM Automate, extract the setup package, prepare access and data files, and import and verify the EPM application configuration. The downloaded HTML setup guide also contains these instructions.

  1. Download the Cost Advisor for AI setup package.
    1. Open the workspace, select Destination, and then select Add destination.
    2. In step 1, Prepare Fusion EPM, select Download.
The ZIP includes the EPM application configuration, onboarding files, and setup guide. Provide the package to the EPM administrator who will complete the preparation.
  2. Prepare the EPM Automate environment.
    1. Install EPM Automate on the deployment computer or server.

In the target EPM environment, open Settings and Actions by selecting your user name, select Downloads, and download the EPM Automate installer. See Downloading and Installing Clients and Installing EPM Automate on Windows.

Create a stable deployment folder, such as C:\EPMAutomate, outside individual user profile folders. Restrict access to authorized operators and grant the permissions needed to manage deployment files, data, credentials, and logs.

The examples in this topic use C:\EPMAutomate. If you select another location, update the paths in ConfigFile.bat and the commands accordingly.

    2. Extract the setup ZIP to a temporary location and copy its contents into the deployment folder.

Locate the extracted package folder that directly contains ConfigFile.bat, EPM_Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Onboarding.bat, and Instruction.txt. If extraction creates an outer folder, open it to locate the package folder. Copy the package contents directly into C:\EPMAutomate, preserving the subfolders. Verify that the configuration file is at C:\EPMAutomate\ConfigFile.bat.

Keep the Lifecycle Management (LCM) snapshot ZIP compressed. Preserve the supplied filenames. Modify only the documented configuration settings and the Cost Advisor metadata and data files.

logsTimestamped batch logsThe batch creates this folder beside the batch file if needed.
  3. Set up access and prepare the Cost Advisor metadata and data files.
    1. Identify the target EPM environment and its associated identity domain, and record their URLs.

Record the HTTPS base URL of each, without a path, query string, or fragment. For the EPM environment, omit /epmcloud. For the identity domain, omit the OAuth token endpoint path. Don't use a sign-in redirect URL.

Keep these values for the EPM environment URL and Identity domain URL fields when connecting the destination.

Record the approved pairing of identity domain and EPM environment. Authorization for this connection applies to the selected EPM environment. If your deployment requires a different identity domain, have the EPM and identity domain administrators confirm and complete the supported domain-access or federation configuration before activating the confidential application. The configuration depends on the EPM release and tenancy setup.

    2. Have the EPM and identity domain administrators prepare the accounts and access required for deployment and ongoing file delivery.

Before running the onboarding batch, create or identify the deployment and integration accounts and assign their roles. The account that runs the batch needs access to the deployment folder and permission to import the application configuration into the target EPM environment. The supplied batch uses importUsers=FALSE, so it doesn't import users or their application role assignments.

For ongoing file delivery, create or reuse an active, dedicated integration account in the associated identity domain and provision it in the target EPM environment. Use an operational username, such as svc_cost_advisor_epm_upload, rather than an individual administrator's personal account. Record its exact sign-in username for the Integration username field. This username becomes the JWT sub value. Don't use the display name or OAuth client ID. Verify that the username identifies the user provisioned in EPM.

Have the EPM administrator grant only the roles needed to upload, list, download, and delete the files used by the integration. Deletion is required when replacing changed files at the target path. Upload permission alone isn't enough. Record the assigned roles and the administrator who approved them. The roles needed for ongoing delivery can differ from those needed to import the application configuration.

For user and role setup, see Creating User and Assigning Roles. For file operation requirements, see Upload, List Files, Download, and Delete Files.

    3. Update ConfigFile.bat with the target environment URL, deployment account's sign-in username, EPM Automate installation path, and package paths.

Set EPM_URL, EPM_USERNAME, EPM_AUTOMATE, EPM_PASSWORD_FILE, EPM_SNAPSHOT_PATH, EPM_SNAPSHOT_NAME, and EPM_INTEGRATION_PATH. Omit the .zip extension from EPM_SNAPSHOT_NAME. The supplied batch doesn't pass EPM_IDENTITY_DOMAIN to its sign-in command. Set the identity domain URL of the Cost Advisor destination separately.

Set EPM_AUTOMATE to the full path of the installed epmautomate.bat. For the example deployment folder, use these package paths:

      SET EPM_PASSWORD_FILE=C:\EPMAutomate\Epmpassword.epw
      SET EPM_SNAPSHOT_PATH=C:\EPMAutomate\Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Snapshot
      SET EPM_SNAPSHOT_NAME=Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Onboarding_Snapshot
      SET EPM_INTEGRATION_PATH=C:\EPMAutomate\Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Integration
    4. Create the encrypted password file at the path specified in EPM_PASSWORD_FILE.

On the administrator's workstation, open a command prompt from which you can run EPM Automate. Replace PASSWORD and KEY with your values and run:

      epmautomate encrypt PASSWORD KEY "C:\EPMAutomate\Epmpassword.epw"
      Encrypted Password File Parameters
      ParameterDescription
PASSWORDPassword of the deployment account used by the onboarding batch.
KEYKey used to encrypt the password. This key is separate from the private key used for JWT signing.
PASSWORD_FILEThe final command argument is the absolute path and name of the encrypted password file, with the .epw extension. The example uses C:\EPMAutomate\Epmpassword.epw. The encrypt command creates this file. It isn't supplied in the package.

If you specified a different EPM_PASSWORD_FILE path, use that exact path as the final argument. Verify that the generated file exists and that its path matches EPM_PASSWORD_FILE in ConfigFile.bat. Save the configuration file.

For command syntax and passwords that contain special characters, see encrypt.

The batch uses this file in the EPM Automate environment. The Cost Advisor for AI destination connection uses certificate-based OAuth. Don't enter or upload the deployment password or encrypted password file in destination setup.

    5. Review and prepare the Cost Advisor metadata and data files supplied in the package.

Work with your finance team and EPM administrator to review the organizational and financial data in the supplied Cost Advisor metadata and data files before loading them. Keep Metadata_Provider.csv, Metadata_Department.csv, Metadata_Entity.csv, Metadata_Model.csv, Metadata_Intent.csv, and Cost_Data.csv in the local Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Integration folder. Preserve the supplied filenames, headers, and column order. The batch uploads all six files to the EPM inbox and loads their contents.

      Local filenamePipelineEPM input path
      Metadata_Provider.csvMETADATALOADinbox/Metadata_Provider.csv
      Metadata_Department.csvMETADATALOADinbox/Metadata_Department.csv
      Metadata_Entity.csvMETADATALOADinbox/Metadata_Entity.csv
      Metadata_Model.csvMETADATALOADinbox/Metadata_Model.csv
      Metadata_Intent.csvMETADATALOADinbox/Metadata_Intent.csv
      Cost_Data.csvACTUALDATALOADinbox/Cost_Data.csv

Confirm with the EPM administrator that the Cost Advisor metadata and data files use the identifiers and periods expected by the integrations. Changing EPM_INTEGRATION_PATH changes the local source folder. It doesn't change the EPM input paths in the imported pipelines.

      Note

Review Cost_Data.csv before running the batch because its contents will be loaded by ACTUALDATALOAD. For ongoing deliveries, verify the delivery paths and pipeline settings as described in Setting Up Daily Pipeline Runs.
    6. Update SEND_TO, STARTPERIOD, and ENDPERIOD in both runPipeline commands in EPM_Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Onboarding.bat.

Update both the METADATALOAD and ACTUALDATALOAD commands.

      Pipeline Parameters to Update
      ParameterValue to provide
STARTPERIODThe first period to load. Replace the supplied TP42-26 value with the period for your data.
ENDPERIODThe last period to load. For a single-period load, use the same value as STARTPERIOD.
SEND_TOThe email addresses that should receive pipeline notifications. Replace the supplied recipients with your deployment contacts.

The periods must exist in Data Integration period mappings. The supplied commands use IMPORTMODE=Replace, EXPORTMODE=Merge, SEND_MAIL=Always, and ATTACH_LOGS=Y. Have the EPM administrator confirm these settings for the target environment. See runPipeline.

  4. Run the onboarding batch.
    1. Have the authorized EPM administrator run EPM_Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Onboarding.bat from a Windows command prompt.

Confirm the target environment, accounts, configuration values, credentials, Cost Advisor metadata and data files, and pipeline parameters before starting. The batch performs these actions in order:

      1. Signs in to the target EPM environment.
      2. Uploads and imports Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Onboarding_Snapshot.zip with importUsers=FALSE. Prepare users and their application roles separately. See importSnapshot.
      3. Uploads the five metadata files and Cost_Data.csv to inbox.
      4. Runs METADATALOAD to load the five metadata dimensions and refresh the application.
      5. Runs ACTUALDATALOAD, which reads inbox/Cost_Data.csv for the cost, credits, data, and user integrations.
      6. Signs out.

Sign in to the Windows deployment host with an account authorized to access the deployment files. Open a command prompt and run:

      cd /d C:\EPMAutomate
      EPM_Cost_Advisor_for_AI_Onboarding.bat

Adjust the deployment path if needed. Keep the command window open until the batch finishes.

    2. Review the logs to confirm that the import and both pipelines completed successfully.

Review the batch output and logs in the package's log folder. In EPM, open Migration, select Reports, and then select Migration Status. Review the import status and any errors. See Accessing Migration for Lifecycle Management and Generating the Migration Status Report.

The batch writes Cost_Advisor_for_AI_EPMAutomate_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.log in the logs folder beside the batch. Review the execution results for METADATALOAD and ACTUALDATALOAD in Data Integration and confirm the expected data was loaded.

Retain the import and pipeline results with the batch log for the onboarding handoff.

If any step fails, work with the EPM administrator to identify completed steps and confirm the recovery procedure before rerunning the batch. Rerunning imports the snapshot and reloads the local files. See Resolving EPM Preparation Issues.

  5. Activate the Oracle Cost Advisor for AI navigation flow.
    1. In EPM, open Tools, and then Navigation Flows.
    2. Find Oracle Cost Advisor for AI. In the Active column, select Inactive to activate the flow. Verify that its status is Active.
Activating this flow replaces the active flow in the same category.
    3. On the Home page, select your username in the upper-right corner, and then select Reload Navigation Flow.
    4. Verify that the Cost Advisor navigation is displayed.
The application configuration is imported, the onboarding metadata and actual-data pipelines have completed successfully, the Cost Advisor navigation flow is active, and the dedicated integration account is prepared for file delivery.

After completing EPM preparation, add at least one AI provider. We recommend adding both person and project ID mappings before connecting the destination so that the delivered Cost Advisor data includes your cost allocations.

Return to step 1, Prepare Fusion EPM, in Add destination. Select the completion checkbox labeled I have completed the EPM setup and confirmed that the application configuration was imported successfully. Then select Next.

In Set up the EPM identity domain, download the public signing certificate and follow Setting Up Identity Access for Fusion Connections. Then enter the connection details to add the destination.

After connecting the destination, complete Setting Up Daily Pipeline Runs for ongoing reporting.

Setting Up Daily Pipeline Runs

Schedule the metadata and actual-data pipelines to load ongoing Cost Advisor deliveries into Fusion EPM.

Complete EPM onboarding and connect the Fusion EPM destination. Have the EPM administrator set up the recurring runs.
  1. Verify where the Cost Advisor connection delivers current metadata and cost files.
Ensure that the pipeline input paths and filenames match those deliveries. The supplied onboarding pipelines use the paths in Onboarding Input Files.
  2. Confirm the periods, import and export settings, and notification recipients for recurring processing.
Ensure that each run uses the intended current files and periods.
  3. Schedule METADATALOAD and ACTUALDATALOAD to run daily after the required files arrive.

Allow metadata processing to finish before actual-data processing. Follow Scheduling a Job to Run Later to select a daily recurrence.

For the Cost Advisor processing schedule, see Data Processing and EPM Reporting.

    Note

The onboarding batch imports the application snapshot and uploads the local onboarding files each time it runs. Schedule the pipelines for recurring loads. Don't schedule the full onboarding batch as a daily load.
  4. Review the first scheduled runs and confirm that current data appears in the application.
Use the application to review Cost Advisor data and insights in Fusion EPM.
