If your content includes Facet Sets or Auxiliary data, and requires the use of content adapters, then you must perform the configuration steps described in this section when you create a new search environment. The default adapters support a maximum of two environments, which are assumed to be your production and staging environments. This section describes the procedures for adding a third environment, called test in the examples.

The adapter component names and their roles can be somewhat confusing. Each adapter component exists as a pair; these component pairs exist on both the asset management and production servers.

Each pair on the asset management server consists of a remote and a standard version, for instance CatalogRefineConfigAdapter (standard) and RemoteCatalogRefineConfigAdapter (remote). The standard version of each component includes a single property, which is set to the path of the remote version of that component.

The production server includes a standard and a local version of each of these same components. The following diagram shows the CatalogRankConfigAdapter components and their relationships as an example:
