Creating your content and defining your renderers, slots, and scenarios needs to be carefully coordinated to ensure that you are rendering the right dynamic content at the right time. The first step in coordinating the personalized content is to create the content itself. Content can exist in many formats, the most common being text files, images, and product promotions. Depending on the type of content, it can be created in a variety of places using different tools. Such tools include the BCC (using ATG Content Administration), ATG Merchandising (to create commerce-related content), or a 3rd party graphical editing tool.
Offer management currently supports five types of content: Solution, Product Promotion, Media-text, Media-image, and Media-external URL. These are referred to as Item Types and their distinction is important in the creation of renderers. See Creating Renderers for more information.
NOTE: Any reference to creating content that contains product promotions or other product content requires the use of ATG Commerce or ATG Merchandising.
Type of Content | Example | Likely user | Location to Create and Edit |
Simple text files |
| trained business user content creator | ATG Business Control Center (BCC) |
Segments | User segments | trained business user content creator | ATG Business Control Center (BCC) |
Image files | JPEGs | content creator graphic artist | Third-party application |
Personalization assets | Content groups, profile groups | technical user trained business user | ATG Business Control Center (BCC) |
Personalization assets | Targeters, scenarios, slots | technical user | ATG Control Center (ACC) |
Commerce assets | Promotions | technical user trained business user | ACC or ATG Merchandising |
The BCC is intended for use by content creators and editors. The BCC provides a rich WYSIWYG editor that allows content creators to easily create and edit content containing plain text or rich HTML for their websites. Once created and checked in, this content is saved into the appropriate content repository. This content can then be specified in the scenario that renders personalized content in ATG Service Center. (Both the content and scenarios must be deployed to the production site in order to work there.)
Alternatively, rich graphic content would be created by a third-party graphics tool and then added to projects in the BCC and deployed as needed.
You can also use ATG Merchandising to create product promotions. You can create product promotions by defining the type of promotion and the media assets that might be used in conjunction with the promotion. Images are created elsewhere and uploaded to the Media repository. Once created, the content is saved in the Product Catalog as a promotion repository item.
