In order to track the pages, content items, and content types that your Web site visitors are viewing, you must add individual tracking sensors to those categories in the Tracking Sensors panel. (Note: Session tracking sensors are preset. You cannot add new Session sensors; you only need to create action statements in order to use them. For more information, see the Creating Action Statements for Tracking Sensors section.)

To add a new Page, Content Item, or Content Type tracking sensor:

  1. Click the New Tracking Sensor button in the toolbar at the top of the Tracking Sensors window. The New Tracking Sensor dialog box appears.

  2. Select a tracking category (Content Item, Content Type, or Page) from the Monitor drop-down list.

    • If you select Content Item (as shown above), choose a repository from the Content Source list, and then select the item you want to track.

    • If you select Content Type, choose a repository from the Content Source list. The dialog box shows you the types of content stored in that repository (HTML, for example), allowing you to select the type you want to track.

    • If you select Page, select the page you want to track from the document directory.

  3. Click OK.

The new sensor appears under the appropriate category in the Tracking Sensors panel. Content Item and Content Type sensors are listed under the content repository you selected.

Next you create an action statement that controls how this tracking event affects visitor profile information. See the following section, Creating Action Statements for Tracking Sensors.
