The System Finalizes Most Contracts Behind-The-Scenes

The contract activation background process (referred to by the batch control code SAACT) finalizes a pending stop contract when everything necessary is in place. Everything necessary to finalize the contract is defined when you initiate the request to stop service.

When the contract activation background process detects that everything necessary to stop service is in place, it automatically stops the contract. This process runs as often as your organization desires (but it should run at least daily).

You can stop a contract real-time (assuming everything that's necessary to stop service is in place). Simply open Contract - Main and click the Stop button.
