Blocks

Prerequisites for Blocks

A block is an allocation of rooms for multiple room types, reserved for a specific date period, that does not require you to create individually named reservations. Blocks are used to reserve multiple rooms for events such as weddings or conferences, inbound tour groups or airline crews, or for long-term allocations such as airline allotments.

You can set blocks to not deduct rooms from inventory (non-deduct status) or to deduct rooms from inventory (deduct status) as needed. If the block is canceled or lost, the block status is updated to a value that returns the inventory held back to house availability. You can quickly create recurring blocks, such as inbound tour groups, using the Group Tour Series functionality. Once a block is confirmed, individual named reservations are created closer to the arrival date, deducting inventory from the block allocation rather from the house availability. Reservation pickup can be either through entry or import of a  Group Rooming Lists, through individual reservation pickup from the Look To Book sales screen or from a web booking engine (website) or other third-party reservation system. As reservations have their own reservation status (reservation type), this allows you to have a non-deduct block in pickup-status (for example, airline allotment) that only deducts rooms from inventory after a deduct reservation is created. With the Simple Diary OPERA Control or Sales and Event Management Cloud Service active, you can link catering events to a block with the block then indicating projected revenue for rooms and catering. See Simple Events (PMS).  Events and Function Diary for further details.
