Supported Software and Firmware

Refer to the Netra Modular System Product Notes for the latest versions of supported software and firmware.

Component
Description
Oracle Linux OS 6.7
For more information, refer to the Oracle Linux OS documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37670_01/index.html.
Oracle VM Server 3.4.1 with Oracle Linux 6.7 and virtualization software
Preinstalled and preconfigured.
Use the Oracle VM Server software to create virtual servers called logical domains. Logical domains run their own independent OS and use a defined portion of the available server resources. Each logical domain is created, destroyed, reconfigured, and rebooted independently. You can virtualize resources and define network, storage, and other I/O devices as services that are shared between domains.
If you want to remove the preinstalled virtualization software and install other software, the following virtualization software is supported:
  • VMware

  • KVM

  • Hyper-V

For more information, refer to the Oracle VM Server for SPARC documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E48724_01/index.html.
Oracle System Assistant
You can choose to have Oracle System Assistant installed as a factory-installed option for Oracle x86 servers. Oracle System Assistant is the preferred application for setting up the system software and firmware.
This tool is an embedded, task-based compute node provisioning tool that can perform initial compute node setup and maintenance for some Oracle x86 servers. Using Oracle System Assistant, you can install a supported OS, update the compute node to the latest software release, and configure hardware.
The compute node contains an internal USB flash drive that contains Oracle System Assistant.
Other OSs
You can remove the preinstalled OS and install another OS. Each compute node or management node can run a different supported OS:
  • Oracle Solaris 11.2 for x86

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 and 6.5

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 3 and P3 with Xen

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64

For information on upgrading an OS, see Install an OS (Oracle System Assistant) and Software and Firmware Upgrades.
Oracle ILOM
Oracle ILOM version 3.2.6 firmware is preinstalled on the SP of each compute node and management node. Oracle ILOM uses the following to monitor the hardware:
  • Remote keyboard, video, and mouse redirection

  • Remote management through command-line, IPMI, and browser interfaces

  • Remote media capability (USB or ISO image)

Oracle ILOM enables you to manage and monitor the modular system through a web interface or a CLI by performing the following:
  • Configuring network information

  • Viewing and editing hardware configurations for the SP

  • Monitoring vital system information and viewing logged events

  • Managing Oracle ILOM user accounts

For more information, refer to the Oracle ILOM 3.2.6 documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37444_01/index.html.
