3-Phase Power Balancing

Power balancing distributes the power evenly across the three input phases. The modular system was shipped from the factory preconfigured with PDUs and compute nodes, and this factory configuration might not be balanced for optimal power load distribution. Rearranging the compute nodes can provide improved power balancing.

If the modular system uses a 3-phase PDU, power balancing can make the system draw power more efficiently from the power plant. This type of power balancing can reduce the energy costs of running the system. The two management nodes must always stay at slots 3 and 4.

Power balancing does not apply to single-phase PDUs.

Each 3-phase PDU has two input feeds. For the most efficient use of power resources, you should balance the loads on each phase within a power feed. Use the following figure to arrange the compute nodes for a balanced power operation.
