System Requirements

To use multipathing with the J4500 array, your configuration must meet the following requirements.

Supported Sun Storage J4500 Array Firmware and Common Array Manager (CAM) Software

Multipathing the J4500 array is only supported with the following enclosure firmware version and CAM software version.

Initial, basic support for the J4500 array is available starting with CAM version 6.1.2. Support for zoning and multipathing is available starting with CAM version 6.4.1. To obtain the latest CAM software (which includes J4500 array firmware), go to the Sun software download site.

Supported HBAs

Multipathing for the J4500 array is only supported with the following HBAs.

Table 4-1 HBAs That Support J4500 Multipathing

Supported HBA
Minimum Firmware Required for Multipathing
Sun StorageTek PCI Express SAS 8-Channel HBA (SG-XPCIE8SAS-E-Z, LSI-based disk controller)
- Firmware 1.26.03.0-IT

- BIOS 6.24.00.00

- Fcode 1.00.49

This HBA must have a Sun manufacturing part number of 375-3487-02 or higher (for example, 375-3487-03 is supported while 375-3487-01 is not supported).

Sun StorageTek ExpressModule SAS 8-Channel HBA (SG-PCIE8SAS-EB-Z, LSI-based disk controller)
- Firmware 1.26.03.0-IT

- BIOS 6.24.00.00

- Fcode 1.00.49

The latest firmware for these HBAs may be obtain from the following download site:

http://www.lsi.com/support/sun

Supported Operating Systems and Drivers

Multipathing for the J4500 array is only supported with the following operating systems and drivers.

Table 4-2 Operating Systems That Support J4500 Multipathing

Supported Operating System
Required Driver Version for Multipathing
Solaris 10 10/08 OS (SPARC and x86)

MPT 4.16.00.00
Windows Server 2003
Sun DSM driver. Available from the Sun software download site.
Windows Server 2008
Microsoft DSM driver. Included with Windows Server 2008, but must be manually installed.

The latest operating system drivers for the supported HBAs may be obtain from the following download site:

http://www.lsi.com/support/sun

Note - Clustering is not supported for use with the J4500 array.

Supported Drives for Multipath

Your J4500 array's drives are supported for multipath. Each drive has a SAS WWN (World Wide Name) required for multipathing. The WWN does not change even if the drive firmware is upgraded. Only supported drives may be used in your J4500 array. Use of unsupported drives might cause a multipath installation to fail.

At the release of this document, the following Sun-qualified hard disk drives are supported for use in the J4500 array (check the label on the drive if you are unsure):

Note - Your J4500 array is shipped from the factory with drives of the same capacity. Mixing drives of different capacities in the array is unsupported.
