This section provides information about and instructions for using the legacy Oracle ATG Web Commerce Representational State Transfer (REST) Web Services.
The Legacy REST Web Services provide access to Nucleus components. Nucleus components are server-side JavaBeans and servlets that perform the back-end functionality of a Web application—for example, enabling database connectivity, logging, scheduling, and handling HTTP requests. The Oracle ATG Web Commerce platform REST Web Services expose methods that get component data and get and set component property values. You cannot use the Oracle ATG Web Commerce platform REST Web Services to delete components.
Note: The Oracle ATG Web Commerce platform Legacy REST Web Services are not related to the SOAP Web Services described previously in this guide. The REST and SOAP modules do not share any functionality. The two technologies were developed independently and are quite different in their implementations.
Important: If you are creating new REST Web Services, you should create them using the REST MVC API described in the Part I, “ATG REST MVC Web Services” section. The Legacy REST API is limited in its ability to be configured and is not extensible.
