Connect the Chassis Ground Wire

This procedure is optional for servers with AC input power. It is acceptable to ground the server through the supplies and chassis ground wire.

Caution

Caution  -  The server chassis must be grounded with the power supply ground pins or with the chassis ground holes. It is acceptable to have both grounds connected.

  1. Obtain a grounding lug (two-hole, long flared barrel, #6 AWG wire, ¼ inch stud hole, 5/8 inch hole spacing, NEMA hole sizes and spacing, 45° angle tongue) and two M5 screws.

The grounding lug and screws must be supplied by the customer. The grounding lug should be a two-hole, 1/4" stud hole, with 5/8" hole spacing.

  2. Go to the rear of the server and locate the two grounding holes beneath fan module 4 (FM4).

  3. Position and align the grounding lug on the two grounding holes at the rear of the chassis.
  4. Secure the grounding lug to the grounding holes using the two M5 screws.
  5. Secure the other end of the grounding wire to the earth ground in the building.

You can secure the grounding wire to a proper grounding point on the rack, as long as the rack is properly grounded to the earth ground in the building.
