If there are certain business rules that you apply on a routine basis, you can create a set of reusable rules called a rule macro that you can insert into any content targeter.
You create rule macros in the same way you set up content targeters. The only difference is that macros are standalone rule sets, meaning that they aren’t associated with a particular content targeter. Also, rule macros cannot include rule breaks as described in the previous section.
To create a rule macro:
Display the Content Targeters window, and then select File > New Rule Macro. The New Rule Macro dialog box appears:
Select a content repository from the Content Source drop-down list. The repository you select determines the content items, content type, and content properties you can target against. The targeting rules in this macro will apply only to items in this repository.
From the Content Type list, select the type of content you want to target against.
Click Next. The following dialog box appears:
Type a brief description of this macro, and then click Next. The following dialog box appears:
Specify the folder where you want to store this macro. Note that these folders are internal to the ATG Personalization module. For a more detailed explanation, refer to Adding New Content Targeters.
Type the name of the new macro. Do not include spaces in the name.
Click Finish.
Set up the targeting business rules for the macro. For details, see the Setting Up Targeting Business Rules section.
Save the business rules for this macro and close the business rules window. The new macro (identified by the icon) appears in the list of targeters in the Content Targeters window. (The macro is located in the folder you specified in step 6.)
You can insert this macro into any content targeter by selecting Include Rule Macro from the Edit menu.
