As described earlier, slot components have an event generation setting that determines whether a slot is passive (the default) or active. For more information, see Active or Passive Slots?. To create a scenario that uses an active slot to request content, do the following:

  1. Have an application developer create a component for the slot you want to use. Make sure that he or she specifies active as the event generation mode for this slot. (In the Slot Wizard, the option to choose is When Empty.)

  2. Create a segment (see Creating a Scenario: Basic Steps).

  3. Add an Event element, and select Items Requested from the list of events.

  4. Specify the slot you want to use as the active slot.

  5. Insert an Add Items to Slot element (an Action element). In this element, you select the same slot that you specified in step 4, and then you define the content items you want to appear.

  6. Specify the priority if applicable. For more information, see Defining the Order of Display.

For more information on active slots, see Active or Passive Slots?
