While a regular SKU represents a single item, such as a size medium blue shirt, a configurable SKU represents an object that is sold as a single item, but has variable components, such as a computer system for which a shopper can select the amount of memory and hard-disk size. You create a configurable SKU the same way as a regular SKU, but you must add configurable properties to it.

To add a new configurable property to a configurable SKU:

  1. Create a new Configurable SKU, as described in Creating and Managing SKUs.

  2. On the Advanced tab in the Details pane, under Configurable Items, click the Configurable Properties property.

  3. Click the + button to create a new configurable property.

  4. In the New Configurable Property dialog box, enter the following required properties:

Name: A descriptive name for the property.

Configuration Options: Specify a product, if this configurable option will represent a product, or specify a SKU if this option will represent a SKU.

  5. Click Create to create the new configurable property and close the dialog box.

  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each new configurable property you want to create.

  7. Click Save to save your changes to the configurable SKU.
