The following are some key terms that you need to be familiar with when you work with price lists in Merchandising:
Base Price List: The price list from which a current or new price list inherits price values.
SKU Pricing: A simple pricing method that uses the product or SKU catalog page to assign a list price and, optionally, a sale price, to the SKU. SKU prices are independent of price lists, but you can use the two pricing methods together if the pricing model for your sites permits it. See Creating and Managing SKUs for information about setting SKU pricing.
Volume Pricing: Sets the price of a product based on the number of items purchased. Price lists support two popular volume pricing models: bulk pricing and tiered pricing. Bulk pricing calculates the price of a product based on the minimum quantity ordered. Tiered pricing calculates the price of a product using fixed quantity or weight at different pricing levels. See Defining Volume Pricing for more information.
Time-Based Pricing: The price of an item based upon a specified time. For example, a price may only be available from 9:00 to 10:00 on a specific day. Price lists can also be configured with start and end dates.
Price Inheritance: Products and SKUs usually inherit their prices from base or parent price lists. For information on overriding that inheritance, refer to the Overriding Inherited Prices section.
Sales Price List: A price list that contains prices specific to sales, such as Winter Sales, or Back to School Sales.
