ATG Search includes a query module that uses rules to analyze user queries and execute special actions which can modify the search behavior. These rules consist of one or more textual patterns and one or more actions. If a rule’s patterns match the query, then the actions are executed to modify the query term vector, query constraints, or query settings.

Query analysis rules are created in the Search Administration user interface; see the “Query Rules” chapter of the ATG Search Administration Guide for information.
