Adobe PDF files can not be returned as a response to a request. Instead, they must be served by the Web site directly from a URL supplied by the user interface. Therefore, for a View Item request which involves a document identifier of a PDF file, ATG Search returns the PDF highlighting information in XML format, instead of the source content. The user interface can handle this by displaying the external URL, modified with the highlighting information.
