Web sites are fast becoming a major source of a company’s revenue and it is to an organization’s advantage to quantify the value provided by the elements that make up their site. The benefit of even a small change to a site can provide a lift in revenue that can translate into significant earnings for an organization.

For years marketers have been running comparison tests for examining which store merchandise is most often selected, which advertisements are the most appealing, and which promotions inspire customers to buy. These results were then measured to see which would generate the greatest return. Although these tests fostered results, the glaring weakness of this activity centers around cost.

The ATG Campaign Optimizer allows business users to present different content to different customers and measure the resulting purchasing behavior. Business users can use the ATG Campaign Optimizer to compare different site designs being shown to different audiences at the same time without making changes to the existing pages. There are two versions of ATG Campaign Optimizer. The core product, ATG Campaign Optimizer, supplies testing capabilities built on top of ATG Adaptive Scenario Engine. ATG Campaign Optimizer for Commerce includes the core product and additional commerce support to ATG Commerce customers. All uses of ATG Campaign Optimizer in this book refer to functionality provided to both products. If a mention includes the term “Commerce,” the functionality is available only to ATG Campaign Optimizer for Commerce.

Both versions of the product include a web-based graphical interface that business users can access to create tests and view test results. When considering making changes to a site, a business user can use the ATG Campaign Optimizer to measure customer responses to the proposed changes.
