Two mechanisms exist to display content on a site page:
A targeter defines product items for display to site visitors who meet the targeter’s criteria. The targeter also specifies the times and under what conditions to display the results. A page developer incorporates the content display on the site page.
A slot is defined for the site page. When an active slot is empty, the slot triggers an event. A scenario traps the event. The scenario defines content and displays it in the slot, or the scenario uses a targeter to define the content.
In a multisite environment, the multisite rules are evaluated when the site visitor requests a page that involves a targeter. See Multisite Targeting Rules.
