If the customer qualifies for a free gift and the gift is added to the cart, the customer can manually remove the gift (perhaps the customer has no interest in the free item). In this case, the gift item or placeholder is not automatically re-added while the cart qualifies for the promotion. If a free gift is manually removed from the cart, but some other manually added item already in the cart meets the gift criteria, the remaining item is repriced to free.

Manually removed gift items can be reclaimed manually; the item will be repriced to free as long as no other item has taken the gift item’s place. Items can also be re-added by un-qualifying and requalifying for the promotion. Note that this case may be difficult for shoppers to understand unless you provide information in the shopping cart.
