DIMM Population Rules

Consider the following population rules when installing, upgrading, or replacing DIMMs in a processor module:

  • Two DIMM capacities are supported: 16 Gbyte and 32 Gbyte.

  • All DIMMs installed in the server must have identical capacities (all 16 Gbyte or all 32 Gbyte DDR3 DIMMs).

  • All DIMMs installed in each processor module must be identical (identical Oracle part number).

To identify DIMM architecture, see DIMM Rank Classification.

  • The following memory configurations are supported:

    • 512 Gbytes (all 16-Gbyte DIMMs in one processor module)

    • 1024 Gbytes (all 16-Gbyte DIMMs in two processor modules)

    • 1024 Gbytes (all 32-Gbyte DIMMs in one processor module)

    • 2048 Gbytes (all 32-Gbyte DIMMs in two processor modules)

Note - If you are adding a second processor module to the server, you must install DIMMs of the same type and capacity that are already in the existing processor modules. See Server Upgrade Process.
