While a regular SKU represents a single item, such a size medium blue shirt, a configurable SKU represents an object that is sold as a single item, but has variable components, such as a computer system for which a shopper can select the amount of memory and hard-disk size. You create a configurable SKU the same way as a regular SKU, but you must add configurable properties to it.
To add a new configurable property to a configurable SKU:
- Create a new Configurable SKU, as described earlier in this chapter.
- On the General tab in the Details pane, click the Configurable Properties property.
- Click the + button to create a new configurable property.
- In the New Configurable Property dialog box, enter the following required properties: - Name: A descriptive name for the property. - Configuration Options: Specify a product, if this configurable option will represent a product, or specify a SKU if this option will represent a SKU.
- Click Create to create the new configurable property and close the dialog box.
- Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each new configurable property you want to create.
- Click Save to save your changes to the configurable SKU.
