Web search engines base their rankings of pages partly on the words that appear in certain HTML tags, particularly <meta> tags and the <title> tag. A common search engine optimization (SEO) technique is to list key search terms in those tags to raise the ranking of the pages for those terms. SEO tags are items whose properties are used to set the content of the <title> and <meta> tags of site pages. SEO tags, and the values to use for their properties, are described in detail in the ATG Platform Programming Guide.

To create an SEO tag:

  1. In a Manage Commerce Assets project, navigate to SEO Tags. See Using the Navigation Pane.

  2. Click the Create New button, and select SEO Tags from the dropdown menu.

  3. In the Content Key text box, enter an identifier to use for looking up the item.

  4. In the Description text box, enter text describing the content of the page.

  5. In the Keywords text box, enter a list of search keywords for the page.

  6. In the Title text box, enter text to be used as the title of the page.

  7. In the Display Name text box, enter a display name to be used for the item.

  8. Click Create.

The new item displays in the Navigation pane.
