The deployment template defines basic configuration for your application, which you can then modify as required by your application environment and search needs.

The deployment templates provides functionality to externalize per-environment settings, such as host names and ports. For your application, you should start by deploying using the discover-data-cas reference app, which demonstrates how to set up record stores, sample Experience Manager cartridges, and other basic features.

You run commands to deploy this initial application configuration once, at the beginning of the project. Subsequently, the configuration can be stored in source control.

You can then move your application to different servers. This requires in each case that you modify the hostname and port values in the deployment template and then run /apps/Discover/control/initialize_services.bat|sh.
