HMP Watchdog Agent Overview

The HMP Watchdog Agent is an optional Oracle Hardware Management Pack component that you can install using the Oracle Hardware Management Pack installer. For information on how to install this component, refer to the Oracle Hardware Management Pack Installation Guide.

Note the following important information regarding the HMP Watchdog Agent:

  • Your system must meet the following requirements to run the HMP Watchdog Agent:

    • A Linux operating system installed

    • Oracle Hardware Management Pack 2.3 or later installed

    • Oracle ILOM 3.2.2 or later on the SP

  • The agent is not started by default. It must be started after it is installed.

  • The agent is not started automatically after host reset (even if it was started before reset). It must be restarted after the host is reset.

  • The host or ILOM watchdog configuration is preserved after the host is reset.

The HMP Watchdog Agent provides two services:

  • ILOM watchdog: If enabled, the ILOM watchdog periodically queries for Oracle ILOM's health. If Oracle ILOM becomes unresponsive, the host performs the specified timer action, which is either Warning or Reset. For more information, see ILOM Watchdog Overview.

  • Host watchdog: If enabled, the host watchdog watches over the host's health. If the host becomes unresponsive, Oracle ILOM performs the specified timer action, which is one of the following: Warning, Reset, Power Off, or Power Cycle. For more information, see Host Watchdog Overview.

This document covers how to configure the HMP Watchdog Agent services using the ilomconfig CLI command.

Information on configuring the HMP Watchdog Agent manually is available at Configuring the HMP Watchdog Agent in Oracle Server Management Agents User’s Guide.
