This update provides a new data structure and algorithm for storing the deduplication metadata used by ZFS. The appliance is now able to store specific types of metadata on a designated set of devices (e.g., SSD) to optimize use cases like deduplication. In order to use data deduplication after the update, metadata devices will have to first be configured in a storage pool.
In order to use this mode, the storage pool must be upgraded. When a pool is upgraded, the existing entries will be migrated from the ZAP to the new data structure. This will happen in the background and will be throttled to have minimal impact on the system.
