1. Learn about the
system.
|
|
|
-
Locate documentation.
-
Identify major components.
-
Review the item included in the spares kit.
|
|
2. Prepare the site.
|
|
|
-
Ensure that the site meets all the requirements for the
system. Specifications for these requirements are listed in
theSPARC M8 and SPARC M7
Servers Installation Guide:
- Physical space, receiving area, and access route
- Facility power, circuit breakers, and receptacles
- Cooling
-
Review the completedOracle
SuperCluster M8 and SuperCluster M7 Site
Checklists and Oracle SuperCluster M8 and SuperCluster M7
Configuration Worksheets.
-
Review the network requirements.
|
|
3. Prepare for
installation.
|
|
|
-
Review the safety precautions, guidelines, site
checklists, and site requirements.
-
Gather the tools and equipment needed for installation.
-
Ensure that power intended for the system is disconnected
at the facility circuit breakers.
-
Route network drops to the installation area.
-
Prepare DNS for the system
|
|
4. Unpack and place the SuperCluster rack
and any optional expansion racks in their intended
locations.
|
|
|
-
Unpack the racks as described in the unpacking guides that
are attached to the shipping cartons.
-
Using two or more people, push the system to the allocated
space.
-
If additional expansion racks are included (up to 17),
position them adjacent to the SuperCluster rack.
Note – Due to cable length restrictions, expansion
racks must be installed adjacent to the server.
-
Stabilize and level all racks.
|
|
5. (Optional) Install any optional
components.
|
|
|
-
Install additional PCIe cards.
-
Install any IB switches that shipped separately (typically
installed as spine switches in U1 as required for most
configurations).
Note -
For new installations, the IB switch in U1 (spine switch) is
installed at the factory.
Note -
Do not connect SuperCluster to any external networks at this
time.
|
|
6. Apply power to the SuperCluster
racks.
|
|
|
-
Connect all of the rack power cords to the facility power
source, routing the power cords either through the top or
bottom of the cabinet, and connecting and securing each cord
to the rack.
-
Connect the SP serial cables to both SPs.
-
Switch on the facility circuit breakers.
-
Wait several minutes for the SPs to boot.
-
Verify that compute server standby power is on, and that
no fault indicators are illuminated.
-
Verify that power is applied to the Ethernet management
switch.
-
Verify that power is applied to the IB switches.
-
Either press the Power On buttons, or turn on the storage
servers through Oracle ILOM.
-
If the ZFS storage controllers do not start up, press the
switches located on the front of the two ZFS storage
controllers.
-
Inspect and verify the hardware.
Note -
Do not connect SuperCluster to any external networks at this
time.
|
|
7. (If present) Apply power to expansion
racks.
|
|
|
-
Connect the expansion racks to the facility power source,
routing the power cord either through the top or bottom of
the cabinet.
-
Switch on the facility circuit breakers.
-
Switch on the expansion rack PDU breakers.
-
Wait several minutes for all SPs to boot.
-
Verify that standby power is on, and that no fault
indicators are illuminated.
-
Either press the Power On buttons, or turn on the storage
servers through Oracle ILOM.
-
Inspect and verify the expansion rack storage
hardware.
|
|
8. (If present) Cable additional
SuperCluster racks and expansion racks to the first SuperCluster
rack.
|
|
|
-
Cable additional SuperCluster racks.
-
Cable the expansion racks to SuperCluster and to each
other.
-
Route and dress the cables with Velcro ties so that
components can be serviced.
Note -
Do not connect SuperCluster to any external networks at this
time.
|
|
9. Authorized Oracle service personnel
configure SuperCluster software according to site
requirements.
|
Contact your Oracle support representative for details.
|
10. Connect the SuperCluster rack to
external networks.
|
|
|
-
Ensure that the default factory installed IP addresses do
not conflict with the site IP addresses.
-
Connect the SuperCluster Ethernet management switch to the
facility management network.
-
Connect the SuperCluster 10GbE ports to the facility
network.
|
|
11. Log in to one of the SuperCluster
nodes.
|
|
|
There are a variety of methods you can use to log in to
SuperCluster M8 and SuperCluster M7. The method you choose depends
on the state of system. Refer to the SPARC
M8 and SPARC M7 Servers Administration Guide for
details.
