Commerce Reference Store configures the MDEX with options that enable logic for correcting the search term, suggesting alternative terms (Did You Mean), or both. These behaviors are configured in the Endeca deployment template provided with Commerce Reference Store. See the Configuration and Extensions for Existing Endeca Cartridges chapter for more information.

The Default Browse Page includes an instance of the SearchAdjustments cartridge. If the MDEX corrects the search term or suggests alternative terms, the renderer for the cartridge displays a message about the correction or suggestions at the top of the main content area of the page.

If a search term returns no results, the MDEX may automatically correct the term. For example, if the customer searches for “sheo,” the MDEX determines that there are no results for this term, and corrects it to “shoe.” The SearchAdjustments cartridge displays a note indicating that this correction has been made. In addition, the Breadcrumbs cartridge displays the corrected term in the Your Selections list:

If a search term returns more than zero and fewer than five results, the MDEX may suggest up to three alternative search terms. In this case, both the results and the alternative terms are displayed. For example:

This illustration is described in the surrounding text.

The alternative terms are displayed as links. Clicking on one of the terms initiates a new search for that term.

In some cases, the search term is corrected and alternatives are suggested. This can occur if the original term returns no results, and is corrected to a term that returns fewer than five results. For example:

See the Configuration and Extensions for Existing Endeca Cartridges chapter for more information about the SearchAdjustments cartridge.
