Route the SER MGT Cable

If there is to be a full-time connection of the SER MGT cable, such as to a terminal server, follow this task to route the cable.

  1. Identify the prerequisite and subsequent installation tasks that you must perform in conjunction with this task.

    See Installation Task Overview.

  2. Route the SER MGT cable from its entry point at the rear of the rack up to the ceiling of the rack.
  3. Route the SER MGT cable across the rack ceiling to the front of the rack.

The SER MGT cable can run parallel to one of the power cords.

  4. Route the SER MGT cable down through the vertical support, so that the end rests at the location where you are installing the switch.
  5. Add slack to the SER MGT cable to enable connection and disconnection with the SER MGT port.
    • If the SER MGT cable is on the left side of the rack, add 12 inches of slack.
    • If the SER MGT cable is on the right side of the rack, add 24 inches of slack.
  6. Secure the SER MGT cable to this vertical length, so that it does not drop any farther.

Use hook and loop fastener straps to bundle and secure the SER MGT cable.

  7. Install the switch.

    See Install the Switch.
