RAC or RAC-One Node Database Instance Example

Note -  The only difference between the RAC and the RAC-One Node instance types is that RAC is active-active and RAC-One Node is active-passive. This example also applies for a RAC-One Node instance.

Assume that you want to create this database instance:

  • Database home for database version 12c (full-path/12.1.0/dbhome_1)

  • RAC database instance, where the database instance is on two virtual machines (virtual machine 2) in both compute nodes

  • Name: RACIns1

To create this database instance, you would locate virtual machine 2 on either of the compute nodes in the Database Virtual Machine Group Summary page, then you would click on the plus sign on the 12.1.0.x line for that virtual machine.

The Create Oracle Database Instance page appears. In this page, you would select RAC for the Database Instance Type. You are also prompted to select the virtual machines that you want to use to create the database instance. Because you chose RAC for the Database Instance Type, you would only be able to select two virtual machines to use for this database instance, one from each compute node.

You already selected virtual machine 2 in either compute node 1 or compute node 2 in the Database Information Summary page, so this virtual machine is selected by default. Because you chose RAC for the Database Instance Type, you would then need to manually select the second virtual machine to be used in this RAC (in this example, virtual machine 2 in the other compute node).

This figure represents this database instance example.
