Database Virtual Machine Group Profile Overview

A database virtual machine group can be thought of as a collection of virtual machines. You might create a virtual machine group for a specific purpose or for a specific group in your organization. For example, you might create a virtual machine group specifically for the legal department in your organization.

You create a profile for the virtual machine group that you want to create. A virtual machine group profile gathers all the system-level information for this particular virtual machine group, including:

  • Number of virtual machines on each compute node that will be members of this virtual machine group

  • Number of cores from each compute node that will be assigned to each virtual machine in this virtual machine group

  • Management network host names and IP addresses for the virtual machine group and virtual machines in the virtual machine group

The virtual machine group profile allows you to keep track of the amount of system resources that you are assigning to the virtual machine group and the number of management network IP addresses that are being used for the virtual machine group.

At the end of the creation process for a database virtual machine group profile, the MiniCluster software provides you a list of management network host names and IP addresses that you must enter into DNS. When you have finished entering the necessary information into DNS, you then deploy the virtual machine group using the information you provided in the profile.

Setting up a database virtual machine group profile consists of the following processes:
