Application Virtual Machine Group Overview

An application virtual machine group consists of one virtual machine (on one compute node) or two virtual machines (one virtual machine on each of the two compute nodes). You might create a virtual machine group for a specific purpose or for a specific group in your organization. For example, you might create a virtual machine group specifically for the legal department in your organization.

When you create an application virtual machine group, you assign certain characteristics to that virtual machine group, including:

  • Name of virtual machine group — Name for this particular application virtual machine group.

  • Type — Number of virtual machines that will be part of this virtual machine group, either multiple (two virtual machines) or single (one virtual machine).

  • Shared Storage — Whether you want to host application binaries on local storage or install the binaries in shared storage.

At this point in the process, you have only defined how you want the virtual machine group to be set up. The next step in the process is to define how you want the individual virtual machines within this virtual machine group to be set up. See Virtual Machines Overview for more information on setting up the virtual machines within a virtual machine group.
