Drive LEDs

The following table explains how to interpret the drive status LEDs.

Color
Description

Ready to Remove
image:Graphic indicating that the drive can be removed.
Blue
Indicates that a drive can be removed during a hot-service operation.

Service Required

Amber
Indicates that the drive has experienced a fault condition.

OK/Activity
(HDDs)

Green
Indicates the drive's availability for use.
  • On – Read or write activity is in progress.

  • Off – Drive is idle and available for use.

(SSDs)

Indicates the drive's availability for use.
  • On – Read or write activity is in progress.

  • Off – Drive is idle and available for use.

  • Flashes on and off – This situation occurs during hot-service operations. You can ignore this situation.


Note - The front and rear panel Service Action Required LEDs are also lit when the server detects a drive fault. See Front Panel Components (Service) and Rear Panel Components (Service).
