A solution is a persistent entity that goes through a variety of modifications, including additions, changes, and deletions to some set of content. Each solution independently moves through a workflow, typically starting with creation, proceeding through drafts and content review and ultimately ending in live deployment. Solution authors, modifiers and reviewers all have tasks that they perform within the workflow that move the solution through the workflow.
Checking in a solution saves it into the versioned repository, where it is indexed for searching. ATG Service Center users cannot access solutions until they are checked in. End users of ATG Self Service cannot access checked-in solutions until they are deployed.
Checking out a solution creates a copy of the solution for editing. End users of ATG Self Service cannot access checked-out solutions until they are checked in and deployed.
