Engagement Engine Editor provides you with the ability to create an unlimited number of sites, as well as the ability to modify or delete existing sites, and to change the site evaluation order.

Creating a site involves:

The conditions available when creating or modifying a site are IP Address, Current Page URL, and Page Title. Further information about these conditions can be found in the Create a New Site section of this document.

Detailed instructions on how to create a site can be found in Chapter 3 – Using Engagement Engine Editor.

Site evaluation order becomes important when the defined sites are not mutually exclusive, i.e. there are pages that fall into more than one site. Rules are only run for one site at a time. This means that if a page is associated with more than one site, only the rules for the site with the lowest site evaluation order value where the site conditions have been evaluated as true shall be run.

Ideally, you should implement a URL strategy that ensures that a page is not associated with more than one site. If this is not possible, then it is important to give some consideration to site evaluation order to ensure that running a rule on a particular page gives the desired result.

When you add a new site, the site evaluation order automatically defaults to a value of one more than the current highest site evaluation order value. If you change the site evaluation order value of a site, the site evaluation orders of any other affected sites are automatically updated on each site the next time that site is published. For example, if the site evaluation order of a site defaults to 6 when you create the site, and you change the value to a 2, then the sites with site evaluation order values of 2, 3, 4, and 5 will automatically update to values of 3, 4, 5, and 6 respectively and will need to be published to confirm the new site evaluation order.

Note: If you do not publish all sites affected by a change in site evaluation order then there may be some inconsistency with which site a webpage is assigned to if it meets the conditions of multiple sites with the same site evaluation order. We recommend you publish all affected sites as soon as possible after you change the site evaluation order for a site.
