Once you have finished associating rules with a site you must decide on the rule evaluation order for the rules within the site. Rule evaluation order is used to identify the order in which the rules are evaluated on a site. The rule with the lowest rule evaluation order value is evaluated first, followed by the rule with the next lowest rule evaluation order value, and so on.
When you associate a rule with a site, the rule evaluation order defaults to a value of one more than the current highest rule evaluation order value. If you change the rule evaluation order value of a rule, the rule evaluation orders of any other affected rules are automatically updated. For example, if the rule evaluation order of a rule defaults to 6 when you associate that rule with a site, and you change the value to a 2, then the rules with rule evaluation order values of 2, 3, 4, and 5 will automatically update to values of 3, 4, 5, and 6 respectively.
Rule evaluation order is site specific and you can have the same rules in a different order on different sites.
There are two methods of reordering rules available within Engagement Engine Editor. These are Reorder Using Drag and Drop and Reorder using number.
Reorder Using Drag and Drop
To reorder your rules using drag and drop, click on the Reorder using Drag and Drop link on the Associated Rules screen. This displays the list of rules in ascending rule evaluation order. You can change the position of any of the rules relative to the others by dragging the rule to a new position on the rules list.
Once you have finished your changes, click on the Save button to confirm your changes. The site must be re-published for the changes to take effect.
You can undo any changes you have made and return to the Associated Rules screen by clicking on the Cancel button.
Reorder using number
To reorder rules using the rule evaluation order value, click on the Reorder using number link on the Associated Rules screen. This displays the rules in ascending rule evaluation order. You can change the rule evaluation order value for any rule by changing the number in the text box.
If you click on the Reorder button, the Engagement Engine Editor sorts the rules using any new rule evaluation order values you have supplied.
You can undo any changes you have made and return to the Associated Rules screen by clicking on the Cancel button.
Once you have finished your changes, click on the Save button to confirm your changes. The site must be re-published for the changes to take effect.
