SP Firmware and Configuration

System firmware consists of two components: an SP component and a host component. The SP firmware component is located on the SPM within the SP. The host firmware component is located on the SP boards, and is downloaded to the CMIOU when the host is started. For the server to operate correctly, the firmware in these two components must be compatible.

Before replacing an SP, save the configuration using the Oracle ILOM backup utility. Refer to the Oracle ILOM documentation for instructions on backing up and restoring the Oracle ILOM configuration.

Note -  If TPM is initialized on a SPARC M7-8 or SPARC M7-16 server, use the tpmadm failover command to backup TPM data and keys automatically to the Standby SP. You can use the backed up TPM data and keys on the new SP for a system migration or hardware replacement. For information about enabling failover when you initialize TPM, see Securing Systems and Attached Devices in Oracle Solaris 11.3.

After replacing an SP, the SP firmware, the host firmware, and the configuration will be restored from the existing Active SP to the new SP.

Note -  For information about firmware updates and the associated .pkg files that could be needed after replacing this component, go to My Oracle Support https://support.oracle.com
