The SPARC M7-8 server configured with two static PDomains is the only server that supports a mixed configuration of SPARC M7 and SPARC M8 CMIOUs. In a SPARC M7-8 server with two static PDomains, SPARC M8 CMIOUs can be installed in PDomain_1 (slots CMIOU_4 to CMIOU_7). SPARC M8 CMIOUs are not supported in PDomain_0 (slots CMIOU_0 to CMIOU_3) of a SPARC M7-8 server with two PDomains.
Unsupported CMIOU configurations include:
SPARC M7-8 server PDomain_1 containing both SPARC M7 and SPARC M8 CMIOUs. There cannot be a mix of SPARC M7 and SPARC M8 CMIOUs in PDomain_1. All of the CMIOUs in PDomain_1 must only be either SPARC M7 CMIOUs or SPARC M8 CMIOUs.
SPARC M8 CMIOUs are not supported in SPARC M7-16 servers or SPARC M7-8 servers configured as one static PDomain containing up to eight CMIOUs.
SPARC M7 CMIOUs are not supported in the SPARC M8-8 server.
A PDomain will not power on if it contains an unsupported configuration. If the PDomain contains an unsupported configuration, the host console will display error messages and the server will generate an ereport alerting you to the unsupported configuration. You must fix the unsupported configuration by either removing or disabling the offending CMIOUs before you can power on the PDomain.
A SPARC M7-8 server with a mixed CMIOU configuration must run a system firmware version that supports both SPARC M8 and SPARC M7 CMIOUs. Additionally, the server's PDomain_1 containing the SPARC M8 CMIOUs must be running an Oracle Solaris version that supports the SPARC M8 CMIOUs. For the minimum supported versions of the supported software and firmware, refer to the SPARC M8 and SPARC M7 Servers Product Notes.
