Modifying Styles and Themes

Perform the following steps to prepare to modify the look of the Knowledge Manager and Self Service application:

  1. Copy the application style sheet and image directories to the location where you would like them to reside. These directories are in <ATG10dir>/Service10/
    Service/Framework/    . The location to which you copy them should be Web accessible. This could be in the directory <ATG10dir>/home/doc/ or any other suitable location.

  2. For Self Service, create a properties file at <ATG10dir>/localconfig/atg/
    svc/self/ui/SelfServiceUIConfiguration.properties    .

    For Knowledge Manager, create a properties file at <ATG11dir>/localconfig/atg/
    svc/agent/ui/AgentUIConfiguration.properties.

    The file should contain the following lines:

    imageLocation=<top-level_image_directory>
    cssLocation=<css_directory>

    These directories do not have to be local. Note that the subdirectory structure under the image directory, including file names, must be preserved in order for the application to use any changed images without customization of the Web application itself.

  3. If you need to rename the style sheets used in the application, add the following lines to the properties file:

    contentStylesheet=<replacement_of_styles.jsp>
    outerStylesheet=<replacement_of_outerStyles.jsp>

You are now ready to make any desired changes to this style sheet and these images. The running application will reflect those changes.

ATG also supports the use of themes. Themes are associated in the UIConfiguration.properties file that you created above for either Knowledge Manager or Self Service. To create a new theme:

  1. Create a new subdirectory of the /css/ directory with theme name as the directory name.

  2. Copy the two application style sheets into this directory and customize them as desired.

  3. To reference this theme rather than the default theme, add this line to the properties file:

    theme=theme_name

In this way, you can maintain multiple themes for the application in parallel. Use this mechanism to switch between themes.

If you want to make these changes to a live configuration, you can edit these properties using the ACC or Server Administration to browse to this nucleus component.

Note: Do this with extreme caution on production systems.
