Power Off the Server or Domain (Oracle ILOM)

You can use the SP to perform a graceful shutdown of the system. This type of shutdown ensures that all of your data is saved and that the system is ready for restart.

Refer to the SPARC M8 and SPARC M7 Servers Administration Guide for additional information about powering off the system.

  1. Prepare to power off the server.

    See Prepare to Power Off the Server or Domain.

  2. Log in as superuser or equivalent.

    Depending on the type of problem, you might want to view system status or log files. You also might want to run diagnostics before you shut down the system.

  3. Switch from the system console to the Oracle ILOM prompt by typing the #. (Hash Period) key sequence.
  4. Power off the server or a specific domain depending on the requirements of the component you are servicing.
    • To power off the server, including all domains, at the Oracle ILOM prompt, type:

      -> stop /System
    • To power off a specific domain, at the Oracle ILOM prompt, type:

      -> stop /Servers/PDomains/PDomain_x/HOST

    Stopping the server can take some time, and you must wait until the host console displays the following message before proceeding to the next step.

    -> SP NOTICE: Host is off
  5. If you are servicing a cold-service component, remove power from the server.

    See Switch Off PDU Circuit Breakers.
