Install a DIMM


Caution

Caution  -  Before beginning this procedure, ensure that you are familiar with the cautions and safety instructions described in Safety Information and the information in DIMM Configuration.


  1. Take the necessary ESD precautions.

    See Prevent ESD Damage.

  2. Ensure that you have removed either the CMIOU containing the faulted DIMM or the CMIOU filler panel.

    See Remove a CMIOU.

  3. If you are replacing a faulty DIMM, ensure that you have removed it.

    See Remove a DIMM.

  4. Unpack the replacement DIMM, and place it on a grounded antistatic mat.

    Caution

    Caution  -  You must install the same size and capacity of DIMMs that are already in the existing CMIOU.


  5. Ensure that the ejector tabs on the connector that will receive the DIMM are in the open position.
  6. Install the DIMM.
    1. Align the DIMM notch with the key in the connector.

      Caution

      Caution  -  Ensure that the orientation is correct. The DIMM might be damaged if the orientation is reversed.


    2. Push the DIMM into the connector until the ejector tabs lock the DIMM in place.

      If the DIMM does not easily seat into the connector, check the DIMM orientation.

  7. Install the CMIOU into the server.

    See Install a CMIOU.

  8. Verify that the fault has been cleared and the replaced component is operational.
