DIMM Configuration

Full-population and half-population configurations are supported. The figure shows a CMIOU with all of the DIMM slots populated with DIMMs. In a half-populated configuration, DIMMs are installed only in the slots displayed in black.

Note -  For a description of how the DIMM sparing functionality improves server fault tolerance, refer to DIMM Sparing in SPARC M8 and SPARC M7 Servers Administration Guide.

Follow these guidelines when replacing DIMMs in a CMIOU:

  • SPARC M8-8 servers: Use either all 32-Gbyte or all 64-Gbyte DDR4 DIMMs or all 128-Gbyte DIMMs.

Note -  As of System Firmware version 9.10.3, the configuration of 128 GB DIMMs are supported.
  • SPARC M7-8 and SPARC M7-16 servers: Use all 16-Gbyte, all 32-Gbyte, or all 64-Gbyte DDR4 DIMMs.

  • Ensure that all DIMMs in a CMIOU are the same size and type. Do not mix 32GB LRDIMMs (4R x 4Gb) and 32 GB RDIMMs (2R x 8Gb) in the same CMIOU.

  • If you are using DIMMs of different capacities in the same host, ensure that all DIMMs in a CMIOU have the same capacity.

  • Use only Oracle qualified DIMMs.
